The Flying Taco
Its an on off rainy day today which I've watched through the roof to floor windows of my office building with a happy sigh that I wasn't outside caught in the flashes of sudden bad weather. However that all changed when I spied on facebook that one of my favourite boutiques was having a sale.
So off I went on my lunch break over to North Perth knowing that even if I didn't find anything to buy, I would probably find something delicious to bring back to eat.

Shopping was a success but there was still the decision of what to have for my lunch meal. I tossed up between Milkd and The Flying Taco, standing actually outside both while deliberating. But the line was long at Milkd and it had been awhile since I'd ventured the fresh Mexican styles of this little shack.
The Flying Taco smells great. It gets your stomach rumbling and mouth watering. And the best part is the menu seems small, but it can be customised to your tastes.
The first step is choosing a style. There's burritos or bare burritos, quesadillas or tacos. I chose a quesadilla, knowing this would probably travel well back to my office.
The second step is choosing a filling. This is where I started getting particularly excited. There's carne asada (steak), carnitas (pork), pollo (chicken), hungos (mushrooms) and papas (potatoes and zucchini). When I read the description of carnitas (traditional slow cooked crispy pork with grilled fresh pineapple) I was sold.
The third step is to choose a salsa. They have your mild pico de gallo, medium salsa verde and the hot salsa chipotle which is made of smokey red chillis and roasted garlic. Naturally I went for the hot version to counter the sweetness of the pineapple and to get my chilli fix.
Quesadillas
The final step is choosing your sides and drinks. I opted for guacamole and sour cream, plus a Jarritos guava soft drink which is probably my favourite soda at the moment. I'm finding it everywhere and loving it more and more!

The food here is cooked to order which is always a bonus, and thankfully they cater for take away in cute little containers and a bag to carry it all in.

The drive back to work was full of anticipation because I could smell the food sitting in the bag on my passenger seat. Ten minutes later I was at my desk and tearing into the first bite.
The quesadilla is perfectly toasted, the tortilla having the right amount of crunch and softness, while the cheese inside is kept quite minimal to ensure it isn't overpowering.
There is plenty of pork inside which is great for the carnivore in me though I did find the serving too big for a lunch meal. But I never am one to complain of large servings! The pork was cooked so it fell apart in my mouth and the pineapple was sweet and delicious.
The only bad thing is if you eat slow (which I do) the quesadilla started getting a little bit tough. But that's where the salsa chipotle came in handy - I could dunk the tortilla in the fiery sauce and it would restore the texture to how it should be.
All up, a pretty good lunch for a wintery day. It was warming, spicy and I have enough leftovers to have it again tomorrow!
